Persephone Necklace

The Persephone Necklace is an extraordinary piece of jewellery featuring a beautifully preserved bronze coin minted in Syracuse, Sicily, under the reign of Hiketas II (287–278 BCE). On the obverse, Persephone, the revered goddess of spring and queen of the underworld, gazes serenely to the left, crowned with ears of corn—a timeless symbol of fertility, renewal, and abundance. The reverse depicts Nikè, the goddess of victory, driving a galloping biga to the right, embodying triumph and vitality. Graded as Extremely Fine (EF), this 22.50 mm coin boasts a rich, dark brown patina and exceptional detail, making it a choice example of its issue.

Set in a polished 18k rose gold bezel, the design elegantly incorporates 7 black diamonds. Six oval diamonds are arranged on a granulated half-ball, reminiscent of ancient goldsmithing techniques, allowing the ball to slide for a perfect fit when the chain is shortened at the back. The seventh diamond, thoughtfully placed on the bezel, subtly enhances the coin’s beauty by concealing a small imperfection. A blackened rhodium silver chain, completed with Sassi’s signature gold lock inspired by antique jewellery clasps, brings a contemporary edge to this historical masterpiece.

In Greek mythology, Persephone, the beloved daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, embodies the harmony of life’s cycles: spring’s renewal and nature’s abundance. Her annual return to earth from the underworld heralds the blooming of flowers, the ripening of grain, and the rebirth of life itself. Her story is a timeless reminder of balance, hope, and the promise of new beginnings.

The Persephone Necklace beautifully merges ancient artistry with contemporary craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics.
