The Fortuna Ring is an extraordinary piece showcasing a Roman carnelian intaglio dating back to the 1st or 2nd century CE. This intricate intaglio, originally used as a seal, is set in 18k rose gold and adorned with 28 vibrant orange sapphires, adding a captivating brilliance to its timeless design. The intaglio depicts Fortuna, the Roman goddess of fortune and abundance, holding a cornucopia, a symbol of wealth and prosperity, and a rudder at her feet, representing her power to guide and alter the fates of individuals.
Intaglios have a rich history as personal seals, used long before the invention of written signatures. These intricately carved gems, set in signet rings, served as cherished possessions, with their symbols chosen to reflect personal identity and meaning. To honour the intaglio’s history, we recreated its imprint in gold, showing how it would have appeared when pressed into wax. The vivid orange sapphires were carefully chosen to complement the warm tones of the carnelian and gold, enhancing the ring’s beauty.
The Fortuna Ring is a tribute to the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient intaglios and the timeless elegance they represent. A masterpiece of history and artistry, this ring captures the enduring power and symbolism of Fortuna.
