The Tanit Pendant features a remarkable bronze coin minted in Zeugitania, Carthage, between 210 and 202 BCE. On the obverse, Tanit, the principal goddess of Carthage, gazes to the left, her profile adorned with a wreath of grain—an emblem of fertility and prosperity. The reverse depicts a horse standing proudly before a palm tree, symbolising strength and freedom, central to Carthage’s founding legend. Expertly struck from masterfully engraved dies, this coin showcases a superb portrait and a dark olive-green patina, graded as Extremely Fine (EF).
The coin is mounted in an 18k rose gold bezel, a design as intricate as the coin itself. The top half of the bezel is granulated, with 50 black diamonds scattered like stars in a night sky, while the bottom half is polished to a brilliant high shine. The pendant’s versatile design allows it to be worn from either side. A blackened silver chain, fitted with Sassi’s signature lock, adds a modern touch to this historical masterpiece.
Weighing 17.73 grams of gold, the Tanit Pendant bridges the past and present, honouring the strong goddess Tanit, who gave her name to the collection. Tanit embodies strength and protection, and the option to wear the necklace with the reverse side of the powerful horse further underscores its significance, spanning more than two millennia and echoing Carthage’s legendary foundation.
A harmonious blend of ancient craftsmanship and contemporary design, the Tanit Pendant stands as a powerful symbol of history, mythology, and timeless beauty.
