A breathtaking, museum-quality intaglio—a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of Roman artisans in the 1st century CE—graces our superb Nikè Intaglio Cuff. Carved from 16 mm carnelian, this extraordinary piece takes the rare form of a standing rectangle with rounded edges, an uncommon and highly sophisticated shape. The intricate design depicts Winged Victory (Nikè), gracefully dancing while holding a wreath. Her flowing garments appear to move with her advancing steps, bringing the scene to life in remarkable detail.
The precision and elegance of this ancient masterpiece are beautifully captured in the gold imprint we created from its seal. Historically, intaglios served as personal signatures, and this one was most likely set in a gold ring. Using an initial wax impression and the millennia-old lost wax casting technique, we preserved this exquisite image in gold. The intaglio’s extraordinary quality suggests it was a commissioned work, reflecting the wealth and refined taste of its original owner.
Now set in a flexible 18k rose gold cuff weighing 17.50 grams, the intaglio is complemented by two delicate wings adorned with 18 orange sapphires. These vibrant gemstones add a modern touch, accentuating the timeless beauty of the piece. The design seamlessly merges ancient history with contemporary sophistication, creating a truly unique and wearable work of art.
The Nikè Intaglio Cuff is a celebration of history, artistry, and elegance, offering its wearer a connection to the triumphs of the past and the spirit of Nikè.
