How to preserve the beauty of my Sassi jewel?
From the selection of each gemstone to the stone setter’s touch, each Sassi jewel is unique. Sassi jewels are made to wear every day and on every occasion. This is why they will need no extraordinary maintenance, especially if they are delicately handled and cleaned regularly.
To maintain their beauty and splendour over time, your precious Sassi jewels deserve regular simple cleaning. Normal everyday use and external agents such as atmospheric agents, cosmetic products, moisture and transpiration coming into contact with jewels may reduce the lustre of gemstones and gold. The regular use of a jewellery polishing cloth will already help for simple cleaning and is perfectly safe to use. Avoid using tissue or paper towels as they will scratch the surface of the gold.
The lustre of gold jewels (without gemstones or diamonds) can be maintained in a simple way using specific, non-abrasive products meant for cleaning jewellery. Most products available on the market for jewellery cleaning may be used safely, as long as they are properly applied, though it is advisable to take extra care with products containing ammonia, alcohol, acids or chemical substances that may prove to be too aggressive. You can also make your own cleaning solution for gold jewels without gemstones by using warm water and detergent free soap. Always avoid using bleach and hot water as they can cause severe damage to your jewellery.
Natural stones do not need any particular treatment or maintenance but, being delicate, they must be properly cared for to avoid knocks that may chip or break them, as well as contact with external agents that may attack them.
A good rule of thumb is to avoid contact with cosmetic products, fragrances, soaps, detergents, chlorine or chlorinated water, prolonged exposure to the sun, proximity to heat sources and sudden changes in temperature that may damage the surface of a gemstone irreversibly. Some gemstones have a porous structure like opals, turquoise and lapis lazuli, and should therefore never be submerged in water. Avoid contact with any external agent like fragrances and creams.
Since diamonds are harder than other gems, they can scratch the gemstones. Pack or store diamonds in such a way that they can not scratch the other gemstones and gold. A good habit to preserve your jewels, is to store them separately in individual soft sachets or the Sassi travel pouches in a dry place, away from heat sources and generally sheltered from any agents that could damage them.
